Project Description

Recently, my writing partner and I have taken up writing comics. Partly because we think it’s a great backdoor way into the screenwriting industry, partly because we’ve been reading tons of comics lately and inspirado struck. The snag? We both suck at drawing. That’s where you come in. We’re looking for someone to fill out this creative triangle – brand new to seasoned veteran – your experience is unimportant.

We currently have two comic book-related irons in the fire, one with the first issue’s script written, the other is still in progress (but will be done soon). The former centers on a private investigator, the latter a super…something (Hero? Villain? It’s a bit of a gray area), but both leads are young females.

Writing-wise, we try to ape the styles of Joss Whedon, JJ Abrams, Jane Espenson, Bryan Fuller, Brian K. Vaughan, Jeff Smith, Mike Mignola, Amy Sherman-Palladino, Kevin Smith – I could go on and on, but throw them all into a Cuisinart and you have us.

Now, to the brass tacks. For submission purposes, we’d like someone who could commit to the following:

1) some character model sheets

2) cover art

3) the first 6 pages or so pencilled and inked – we’ll hammer out the details later on.

In the bigger picture, we’d like someone who we work together with on one of the series, both of the series or more.

Ideally, we’d be independently wealthy enough to pay you what an artist of your caliber surely deserves. In reality, we’re pretty broke and have grown rather accustomed to eating on a daily basis over the years. That said, I’m sure we can work something out. At the very least, we can reimburse you for materials, plus a little extra. One thing to remember is that we’ll be doing pretty wide submissions and going to some conventions, so you will certainly be paid with crazy exposure. And that’s invaluable (and oddly, something we can afford). Go figure.

So, if you’re an artist looking to team up with a (couple of) writer(s), send me an email with some samples or a link to a website where we can see some of your work (personal, deviantArt, LiveJournal – whatever).

Thanks for humoring us by actually reading all of that.
