The single most important time of the year to be in the presence of the Guru. Guru means "the remover of ignorance".

There are two themes for the Guru Purnima seminar: (1) What are thoughts and how do they come into the mind; (2) 31 Impurities of the body-mind. Thoughts come because of desire. What is desire? It is sense gratification. You want to eat good food. That is satisfying your desire for taste. You want good clothes, shoes, cars because you want to look good. That is satisfying the sense of sight. You desire sex because that satisfies the desire for touch. You like perfumes because you want to satisfy the sense of smell. You like music because you want to satisfy the sense of hearing. For most sense gratification, you need money. That is why money thoughts haunt you all the time. Fear of losing money and relationship and death are other causes for thoughts. Datta will give you a powerful meditation to get rid of thoughts. There are 31 impurities that constitute the body-mind of the world. Unless you clean them up, you cannot move to the next level in evolution. The thirty one impurities are: Five Great Elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Ether Five Subtle Elements: Smell, Taste, Form, Touch, Sound Five Organs of Action: Creative, Excretion, Foot, Hand, Speech Five Organs of Cognition: Nose (organ of smelling), Tongue (organ of tasting), Eye (organ of seeing), Skin (organ of touching), and Ear (organ of hearing) Three Internal Organs: Mind, Intellect, Ego connected with objectivity Nature (prakriti) Ego connected with Subjectivity Six Coverings: Limitation of Place, Limitation of Time, Limitation of Attachment, Limitation of Knowledge, Limitation of Action (Creativity), and Illusion of Individuality You experience Divine Mind or Pure Consciousness when you cross these impurities.
