True American Hero: I Salute You

February 19, 2008 - Tuesday
True American Hero: I Salute You
Category:  News And Politics

To the very best of my knowledge, the Republican Party is founded on the principle of individual freedom.  The brave Northern souls and courageous Southerners who fought for the fair treatment of all human beings in the 19th century were in fact gate-keepers to the America that we strive for today.  Through conflict, turmoil, and (sadly) bloodshed, America the Beautiful has consistently thwarted any and all efforts that would alter the noble mission of this great Nation.

The true embodiment and importance of protecting individual rights in America are easily seen in the actions and commitment of our brave men and women in the Armed Services.  On a global basis, our soldiers fight the good fight, extend peaceful compassion, and endure unimaginable hardships for the specific purpose of keeping our homeland safe.  From Barack Obama, to Snoop Dogg, to Britney Spears, to Tim Robbins, to Michael Moore, all owe their freedom to our past and present soldiers.  From Magic Johnson, to Larry Bird, to Calvin Hill, to Grant Hill, to Brett Favre, all owe their freedom to our past and present soldiers.  Categorically, all Americans whether rich or poor, famous or infamous, northerner, southerner, westerner, or mid-westerner, young or old are indebted to our soldiers for America’s protected individual freedoms.

One such soldier, John McCain, deserves full support from the Republican Party.  This gentleman spent more than 5 ½ (five and one-half) years in Prisoner of War (POW) captivity.  Can you imagine the intestinal fortitude required to endure repeated interrogation “techniques,” all the while protecting the location and strategy of your fellow Americans?  Can you imagine the heartbreak of facing death during an interrogation session, and then re-gaining consciousness due to the harsh realities of another torturous day?  Can you imagine being protein deprived due to induced starvation “techniques” at the hands of your capturers, yet maintaining the strength to fend off attacks on your mind, body, and soul?  Think about it my friends… think about it.

Presidents are vetted based on merits that sometimes go beyond the call of duty; thus, there is a tendency for media pundits to over-examine the mettle of a candidate in order to determine character and intestinal fortitude.  With certainty, John McCain was thoroughly “vetted” by his wartime “handlers;” thus, I implore Rush Limbaugh and other media-types who seek 15 minutes of fame to resist taking unwarranted and disrespectful shots at a true American hero.  Is John McCain the only Armed Services hero?  Obviously (and thankfully), America has many past and present heroic soldiers; however, no other Presidential candidate has endured the degree of personal peril and hardship that John McCain has endured.  With the understanding that my family, friends, loved ones, neighbors, fellow Floridians, and fellow Americans can safely live and prosper throughout our great Nation, I salute the long-lasting heroism of  John McCain.

Sincerely,

Dr. Marion D. Thorpe, Jr.
U.S. Congressional Candidate
District 23 – Florida
