Mistake of the Year - Imus Was Just Trying To Sound Black!
Category:  Life
Let me start by stating that I think Don Imus is unfunny, untalented and way past his prime. If he ever had a prime. It was a bad joke. It was tasteless. It wasn't remotely funny. He apologized. Move on.

But here's one observation that I haven't heard anyone make:

Has anyone noticed that when Imus made the comment, he was trying to imitate exactly what we hear on the street, in television and movies, on MTV, in popular music, i.e., rap, all the time? Folks, I think Imus was actually just trying to sound urban and edgy. I think he was trying to sound, well, black! By the way, this is a big mistake for white people because 1) you sound stupid doing it and 2) if you're a public figure, you're going to get excoriated for it by the likes of Rev. Al, Jesse and the rest of the opportunists who are just waiting for "Whitey" to slip up again. But when you're 65 and white and trying to sound "gangsta" - well that's pure stupidity. Imus should just accept who he is. A turkey necked old white guy. Advice to Imus: Stop trying to sound like "Fitty" and maybe you'll keep your day job. Maybe not.

Speaking of Fitty, hasn't he used much harsher language in his songs to describe black men and women? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Finally, will somebody tell me why we need to hear from Rev. Al again? How is he helping anything? And as for Vivian Stringer and the rest of the Rutgers team, is this the 15 minutes of fame the NCAA Women's Finals couldn't quite give them? I think so.

Jason Whitlock of the Kansas City Star apparently agrees with much of what I think. But he missed the most obvious point - that Imus was just trying to sound black. Maybe this isn't so obvious after all. Or maybe no white person dares to say it. Not in the media anyway. Oh well. I just did.
