Florida's 23rd U.S. Congressional District and the Nation: Does it Matter?

Florida's 23rd U.S. Congressional District and the Nation: Does it Matter?
Category:  Religion And Philosophy
A member of Generation Y recently asked me why my campaign for Congress in Florida’s 23rd U.S. District has taken on Nation-wide appeal. “After all,” he reasoned, “The only people who can vote for you are the people who live in your District so why does it matter to someone in California whether you win or lose? Rather than give the typical political sound-bite answer, I asked him to give me a day or two to address his question. The following Doc’s Box serves as my response.
Firstly, we need many more heroes in America and far fewer villains. In an era whereby younger generations are bombarded with both imagery and detail about unruly Hollywood-types who wiggle out of much needed time in rehab and/or jail, it is imperative that good people step-up and stand tall as heroes within our families, communities, and places of employment. In an era whereby younger generations are bombarded with both imagery and detail about the prevailing “wink and a nod” use of performance enhancing drugs in America’s favorite pastime sport of baseball, it is imperative that good people take a stand against the cheater’s mentality that is permeating our traditional American culture. In an era whereby younger generations are bombarded with both imagery and detail about corrupt politicians who store money in freezers in Louisiana, e-mail underage House Pages in an explicit manner, and evade penalty and justice by questioning the meaning of the word “is” while presiding from the Oval Office of the White House, it is imperative that good people no longer turn a blind eye on the corruptocrats that thrive in Washington, D.C.
Secondly, a show of support for my campaign in Florida’s 23rd U.S. Congressional District is in fact a show of support against the status quo of poverty, crime, and corruption. Though impeached by a vote of 413-3 in the U.S. House of Representatives, my Congressional opponent has managed to string together 16 years in Congress. He is now asking voters to grant him a total of 18 years in Congress, with the understanding that Hillary Clinton (if elected) will place him on the U.S. Supreme Court bench. While I do not understand how this Judicial appointment is legally possible given the fact that he was impeached from the Federal bench prior to his Congressional career, I do know that he and Hillary are quite adept at curving the law to their favor and will.  In the plainest of terms, my Congressional race has wide-reaching and long-lasting implications for District 23 residents, the State of Florida, and our Nation.  The choice is simple: Take a stand against corruption by supporting Thorpe for Congress, or remain silent and let the status quo further strengthen its death-grip on America.
Lastly, some Floridians remain fearful of retaliation from my opponent; thus, Nation-wide support is integral to my fight for election in U.S. Congressional District 23. By garnering support from all parts of this Nation, I am ensuring that my political adversary’s “machine” will not be able to resort to the same-old localized dirty tricks that have allowed him to flourish in D.C. for nearly two decades. Categorically, it is time to wipe away my opponent’s brand of corruption and greed so that “A New Day, A New Way!” dawns in CD 23, Florida, and our Nation on November 4, 2008.

Sincerely,

Dr. Marion D. Thorpe, Jr.
U.S. Congressional Candidate
District 23 - Florida
