Boxer Hermit

I am older now
But I am not any wiser
I remain a quizzical child
When I can’t find any answers
To the myriad of questions
That present at quite a distance
And stay hidden in the shadows
Like a boxer in an alley
Training hard to be a warrior
For uncertain consequences
That is destined for the weakness
Exposed at the wrong moment
While answers rain like sweat does
To the ringside faces watching
Till the last bell calls though painful
As the many eyes are waiting
For decision they are seeking
That will mean nothing tomorrow
But may decide his truth today

I am lonely now
But I am not any free’er
I remain an orphaned child
When I can’t find no one near me
To hold me as I falter
With the solitude of existence
As I stumble by tomorrow
Like a hermit going nowhere
That is carrying all the troubles
Made when he was family
But escape him as he travels
To a future that’s uncertain
With a plethora of questions
Kept tightly in his knapsack
Along side all his demons
That limits his possessions
Needed for a tomorrow
But escape him as he wanders
And bankrupts him on his way

I am boxer and I am hermit
I am older and alone now
With the questions of a prophet
And the troubles of a bluesman
In the ally with the garbage
Seeking shelter from the storm
Of the life that dealt me this hand
Of the life that took my home
I have little fight left in me
I have nowhere left to go
No more answers am I seeking
No more time to find my soul
There will be no lasting comfort
To find me in the end
I am boxer I am hermit
Passing through the storm again
